About Local Rook

A platform built by chess players, for chess players

Local Rook is a free, open-source platform for finding and sharing over-the-board chess meetups worldwide.

Our Mission

We believe chess is best played face-to-face. Our mission is to connect players across the globe — from the casual café blitz enthusiast to the competitive club regular — by making it easy to discover and contribute venues where chess is played.

What We Offer

  • Interactive Map — browse chess venues near you
  • Community Ratings — chess-piece rating system (♙–♕)
  • Player Profiles — link Lichess & Chess.com accounts
  • Game Log — record and track your OTB games
  • Buddy System — find and connect with local players
  • 8 Languages — chess is universal

Open Source

Local Rook is built in the open. The entire codebase is MIT-licensed and available on GitHub. Contributions, bug reports, and feature suggestions are always welcome.
